Description
This exceptionally composed vessel is an interesting counterpoint to the inlay of Shimaoka shown here. Kitamura refered to this techniques as "inspired monotony." Similar to 17th century Mishima wares, the artist spends countless hours making holes in the surface of the large vase with a sharpened bamboo stick, then fills them with white slip. The exquisite lyricism of her patterning often suggests traditional Japanese sand combing in Zen gardens. 18" High . In original box . In perfect condition. Estimate $6.000-8.000
