Obtained from the Lionel Archives. This prototype for the Wabash F-3 A-B diesels does double duty as the 2367 dual motor version from 1955 and the 2240 single motor version released in 1956. On the A unit, one side is numbered 2367, and the opposite side is numbered 2240. Decals constitute all of the lettering and graphics on the shell. The blue stripe on the side extends at an angle into the vent area near the top rear of the shell. A short white stripe that extends from the rear of the shell to the front of the rear porthole splits the blue stripe. The blue and white stripes are painted, and the top is unpainted gray plastic. The shell has portholes, while the production model has portholes that are blanked out. The frame is an early version painted black without motors and silver trucks. The B unit has "2240 and WABASH" in decals on both sides. A blue stripe runs the length of the shell in the vent area. The B unit also has portholes, while the portholes were blanked out on the production model. The B unit frame is painted black with silver trucks and has 2356C rubber stamped on the bottom. Original 1955 and 1956 Dealer catalogs are included with this lot along with a framed magazine advertisement showing the locomotives in the prototype paint scheme.
