Ancient Phoenician Sand-Core Glass Amphoriskos CIRCA 6th-5th century B.C. Size 2 3/4 inches high. Rare blue, with handles in same color; trails in opaque yellow and opaque turquoise blue.Broad, uneven, slightly inward-sloping rim-disk, cylindrical neck, with slight downward taper; almost horizontal shoulder; top-shaped body; circular base-knob with slanting flat bottom; two vertical strap handles applied to shoulder, drawn up, and pressed onto neck and underside of rim-disk.A yellow trail attached at edge of rim-disk; a thick yellow trail applied at shoulder, wound down in a spiral across shoulder and around top of body, then into an uneven close-set zigzag pattern on upper part of body, where a turquoise blue trail is added, mingling with the yellow; below. Condition: Large chip on rim otherwise perfect. Provenance: from the estate of Robert Thompson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Bob represented the extensive dedication, scholarship, and attention to detail that the antiquity collecting community requires. Bob started collecting in the 1960s and dedicated a substantial portion of his time to the acquisition, attribution, and conservation of his collection.
