Description
ASSORTED CERAMIC DOLL HEADS, LOT OF FOUR,comprising one shoulder bisque head embossed "Germany / 2755/0 / Heubach Koppelsdorf" having brown sleep eyes, open mouth with teeth, painted eyebrows and painted eye lashes, and three porcelain shoulder heads with painted black hair and painted blue eyes. Together with one 1 1/8" H figure of a child seated on a chamber pot.Fourth quarter 19th/early 20th century. 3 1/4" to 5" H.
Bisque head undamaged with some loss of paint to eyelids on sleep eyes, two porcelain heads undamaged, hairline on front breast of one, and small figure appears to have been broken off of a base, lacking feet and rough on bottom. Manufacturing hairline on top edge of bisque head.
Provenance: Property deaccessioned from a Virginia institution to benefit the collections and conservation funds._x000D_
From the multi-generational family collection of the late Miss Mattie D. Spotswood (1885-1891) of "Stirling Castle", 320 High St., Petersburg, VA, a descendent of Gov. Alexander Spotswood.
