A very large Russian kustar or folk art jewel casket or table box, circa 1900. The cover of the hinged lid carved in relief and painted with a scene of a winter troika ride, the border and all sides of the box with engraved floral and whiplash ornament in Art Nouveau taste, the feet with engraved geometric ornament, with hasp for lock (lacking key), the interior of the hinged lid with an engraved Russian inscription suggesting that the box was once used as a box for sewing: Ne zabyvai vse zashivai (Don't forget to sew it all up). 1501-090. Length 13 3/4 in (35 cm) x height 6 in (15) x depth 9 in (22.5 cm).

Fair condition. The handworked box with some loose joints, small areas of loss to corners and small splits. Dusty.
