Provenance: Dimitri Georgevitch of Leuchtenberg, Duke of Leuchtenberg, born in 1898 in St. Petersburg and died in 1972 in Saint-Sauveur-des-Monts, Quebec.
His Highness Duke Nicolas de Leuchtenberg (1843-1891) was the eldest son of Duke Maximilian of Leuchtenberg (1817-1852) and his wife Grand Duchess Marie Nikolayevna of Russia (1819-1876). By his father, he is the grandson of Prince Eugene de Beauharnais (1781-1824) and Princess Augusta-Amelie of Bavaria (1788-1851) while, by his mother, he is descended from Tsar Nicholas I of Russia (1796-1855) and Princess Charlotte of Prussia (1798-1860).
In 1873, Nicolas inherits his aunt, the Amelie Empress of Brazil, the small castle of Stain and the family does not take long to settle there. In 1876, the prince managed to expand his Bavarian estate by buying from the heirs of another of his aunts, Queen Josephine of Sweden, small properties located in Neureuth and Seeon. Nicolas and Nadège are constituted, in Stain, a small brilliant court. Passionate about the arts and sciences, they receive many intellectuals and several members of the Imperial Society of Mineralogy.
