Frontespizio con ritratto dell'autore e dedica, [4] pp., 1-265 (i.e. 272). A p. 4 ritratto del cardinale Luigi d'Este cui l'opera è dedicata in elaborata cornice barocca. Nel testo 85 incisioni di cui 4 a piena pagina. Prima rara edizione di questa celebre opera che è anche il primo libro stampato a Vico Equense. Giovanni Battista Della Porta fu il fondatore della fisiognomica e la presente opera è uno dei primi lavori sull'argomento, di notevole influenza sulle successive generazioni di scienziati, tra cui Lavater. Interessanti le analogie tra piante, animali e uomini che permette di identificare in questi ultimi i tratti della maleducazione, irascibilità, mancanza di disciplina, intelligenza e modestia. Esemplare interamente rinfrescato; piccola traccia di abrasione censoria ai genitali della figura a p.19, antico contorno a penna sull'illustrazione di p.142, qualche piccola ossidazione.
