Depicts fierce battle with bayonet combat in the center foreground as troops prepare to shoot and buildings burn in the background. Some casualties pictured.
Richard Simkin was a British artist and illustrator, employed by the War Office to design recruiting posters and to illustrate the Army and Navy Gazette. He also contributed to other periodicals including the Boy's Own Magazine and The Graphic. He is probably most known for his uniform illustrations, many of which can be found in regimental histories.
