Binding: Hardcover

This is the 1791 two-volume (493 + 516 pages) english translation of Anquetil's history of Louis XIV's court, "Memoirs of the Court of France During the Reign of Lewis XIV, and the Regency of the Duke of Orleans, Volumes I and II", with leather spines and corners, marbled boards, gilt lettering in black and red backgrounds, and gilt decoration to the spine. The marbled boards are scuffed, the outside corners are bumped, but not markedly, and there are a number of scuffs to the spine, which is in good overall condition, with no substantial wear. The spines are straight. The gilt shows no fade. The title and volume labels are clean and unfaded. The attachments to the insides are secure. The marbled inside cover spreads are unfaded, and with no attachments or writing. There are no stamps or like additions in either volume. The only writing is to the right hand page of the first blank spread in each volume, each of which has the following: F. J. Wigram Eton Michaelmas '39. The marbled page edges are in excellent condition, with no fade or stains. The bindings are uniformly tight, with no loose or missing pages. There is sunning and foxing to a number of pages, but most have neither. The text is uniformly clean and unfaded. There are no page tears and few creases. The accompanying photos are accurate reflections of the book conditions.
