Description
This is a very old bronze artifact from the Ashanti or neighboring Akan speaking group from Ghana, West Africa. The Ashanti are well known for their incredible bronze artworks, created using the lost wax method. Many are used as gold weights for selling Gold dust ( they would act as the counter weight in a scale ) and also as symbols and emblems of the tribe. This is a fascinating example of a Snake charm. Such Serpents were often used by neighboring tribes as currency, however the Ashanti would have likely used this as a Gold Weight. The bronze measures 5.25 inches long.
