Description
English Late Regency period mahogany and satinwood two-piece secretary cabinet. Pine secondary wood. Top section having a shaped cornice with an ebonized lion medallion flanked by sphinxes to the center and ebonized lion masks to the corners, over an ebonized Greek key frieze, above two glass paneled doors with oval mullions flanked by columns terminating in paw feet. Lower section having a false drawer panel fitted as a desk with pull-out writing surface, ebonized trim and brass lion mask handles, over two doors with ebonized medallions to the centers and ebonized trim flanked by columns. All resting on ebonized paw feet to the front and bracket feet to the back. 89" total H. 100 5/8" total H. Base - 42 5/8" H x 51" W x 26" D. Top - 58" H x 46 1/2" W x 14 1/2" D. Second quarter 19th century. Provenace: Formerly of Maple Grove Estate, Knoxville, TN when a private residence, and published in Southern Accents magazine. Overall good condition with general wear. Scattered light losses to ebonized trim. Older refinish.
