Item Details
Description
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE. A lovely mold-made terracotta oil lamp with a concentric ring base, sloping walls, and rounded shoulders. It has a recessed tondo with a low-relief flower design, the petals of which encircle a small fill hole, and a vent hole along the upper rim of the tondo. Two nubbin-shaped additions lie along the shoulders, and a rounded wick spout and pierced loop handle complete the exterior features. The vessel has a light-orange hue, and is a great example of Roman-era pottery lamps! Size: 3.75" L (9.5 cm).

Provenance: private Schroeder collection, Boca Raton, Florida, USA, acquired before 1970
