Description
Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chavin, 900 to 200 BCE. A greyware vessel with a rounded body, a flat base, and a narrow, tapering neck that flares outward into a steep rim. Simply formed and elegant, this piece has an almost modern sensibility despite its ancient origins. Probably made to hold chicha, maize beer, with its narrow neck to prevent evaporation. Size: 5.5" W x 7.75" H (14 cm x 19.7 cm)
