Item Details
Description
Pre-Columbian, Central Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala / Chontal, ca. 800 to 400 BCE. A standing anthropomorphic figure, hand-carved from a mottled green stone with dark inclusions. The figure has a rectangular form, with its neck, waist, arms, legs, and ankles all delineated using the meticulous string-cutting technique. While the abstract composition is indicative of Mezcala artistry, the clearly-defined features are indicative of more naturalistic Chontal depictions of the human physiognomy. Size: 3.25" H (8.3 cm).
