Description
Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A remarkable cast bronze oil lamp with a bifurcated handle depicting a male head, most likely a god, presenting handsome features framed by a neatly curled coiffure, the vessel with an elegant body, an extended spout featuring a recessed opening surrounded by a raised border, and a hinged cover with a multi-tiered finial over the fill hole. The round base has a square perforation, presumably for fitting into a larger structure. A fabulous ancient oil lamp, unique for its depiction of a deity head boasting a stunning green and russet patina. Size: 6.75" W x 3.375" H (17.1 cm x 8.6 cm)
