Description
Islamic world, Persia (Iran) ca. 17th century CE. A charming example of Islamic ware, this is a glazed ceramic bowl with dense iconography on the exterior and interior combining themes of royalty, workers, and domed architecture. Delightfully, the exterior shows a scene that seems to take place outdoors, with birds, flowers, and a horned ungulate, as well as domed towers and a seated man; meanwhile, the interior has a scene that appears to be indoors of men, women, and another horned ungulate. All seem engaged in some industry. In tondo is a royal figure with a crown and pet bird, holding goblets. Size: 5.25" W x 2.25" H (13.3 cm x 5.7 cm)
