Description
Vesalius (Andreas) Icones Anatomicae, one of 615 copies, illustrations, "To the Reader" leaf loosely inserted, original half white pigskin over boards by Frieda Thiersch, without dust-jacket, original drop-back box, worn at spine, folio, Munich, Bremer Press, 1934.
***A magnificent edition using the original woodblocks for Vesalius' monumental anatomical works (De human corporis fabrica, 1543 and the second edition of 1555; Suorum de humani corporis fabrica librorem epitome, 1543; and Von des menschen Cörpers Anatomey, 1543), which were rediscovered in the University of Munich in 1932. 227 of approximately 277 were found and to these was added the original woodblock for the title-page of the 1555 Fabrica from the collection of the Library of the University of Louvain. The joy of their rediscovery was shortlived however, for all the blocks were destroyed in the second world war..
