Item Details
Description
Egypt, Coptic Period, ca. 3rd to 4th century CE. A pretty woven textile fragment with abstract, symmetrical geometric motifs in a range of browns, reds, and yellows. Textiles were produced by Copts and other weavers throughout the Byzantine Empire; they were preserved by being buried in arid Egyptian graves. This was probably a piece of a tunic, the most common garment worn in Egypt at the time. Size of visible fragment: 2.55" W x 2.55" H (6.5 cm x 6.5 cm); size of frame: 7.2" W x 7.2" H (18.3 cm x 18.3 cm)
