He used an innovative technique, which produced work that was impressionistic, with a raised surface that had an almost ‘sandy’ texture. This was his ‘signature’ style of painting. The technique involved applying a rough textured surface to the canvas before starting his paintings. He then applied brilliant pastel colors to achieve the intended effect in his finished works which added movement and contrast of pointillism. Henry Benson was best known for his beach scenes with children as well as his ‘lifestyle’ scenes of New York City.
