Description
Henri Toulouse-Lautrec (French, 1864-1901): Woman Playing Piano, possibly a study for The Singing Lesson*, tempera on paper, signed lower margin and on reverse with initialed monogram. Also on reverse is a collector stamp in which Ruel-Paris is visible; possibly the Durand-Ruel Archive. Very good condition. Unframed. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Arthur Steinmeyer, Steinmeyer Gallery, Munich, Germany. Dimensions: 10.5 x 7.75 inches.

* The Singing Lesson, painted in 1898, is currently in the collection of the Mohamed Mahmoud Khalil Museum in Cairo, Egypt. It depicts piano teacher Mlle Dihau with her student Mme Faveraud engaged in a lesson. Mlle Dihau at her piano was a subject both Toulouse-Lautrec and Edward Degas made multiple paintings and drawings of.
