Description
A pair of Egyptian steatite scarabs. Lot includes a 3rd Intermediate example, c. 1075 - 664 BC, carved from steatite, the base with a feather, Nefer and Ankh flanked by neb signs; all within a rope border. Dimensions: 17 x 11 mm. Cf. Matouk II, no. 2438. The second is a Late Period type, c. 664 - 332 BC, in steatite, the base with an amuletic praenomen of Thutmose III 'Men-Kheper-Ra' between feathers. Dimensions: 15 x 9 mm. Both holed lengthwise for suspension. Ex Jonathan Rosen collection, no. 0336. Both scarabs are ex Royal Athena Galleries, New York.
