Description
French Moorish Enamel Enameled Bronze Hand Mirror, Delafontaine Tiffany Style. Delafontaine (French, 1813-1892) Orientalist design vibrant blue enamels on gilt-bronze ground, centering beveled looking glass; stamped: star over A.D.; H 14.1/2\\\" x W 8\\\". Other Notes: The Delafontaine bronze factory was established by Jean-Baptiste-Maximilien Delafontaine in the late 18th century. Later passed to his grandson Auguste-Maximilien, and by 1870 when this lot made the firm was located 10 Rue de L\\\'Universite. The foundry produced decorative works of the highest quality and was one the most renowned of all the Parisian foundries, and the leading competitor to the Barbedienne foundry. They cast works the leading sculptors of the time including Antoine-Louis Bayre, James Pradier and Mathurin Moreau. Works cast by Delafontaine remain in the collection of the Louvre and other leading museums.
