Item Details
Description
Double Portraits of Ralph and Erastus Lord of East Windsor, Conn., circa 1845, brothers of William Lord and Lydia Lord Chapman, and Lucy Lord. Both ended up in California during the Gold Rush, are buried in the Oakland Cemetery. In matching leather cases, horizontal format, with simple brass mats. Interestingly, their positions in the two images are reversed, although taken the same day. Possibly done differently to put each brother in the more dominant position on the left. Images are very good, one case has a repaired hinge.
