Second half 19th century, 269 x 132 cm, South East Anatolia, Mersin Province

Coarse in weaving structure, this small single-panel kilim stands out on account of its warm and brilliant colours. Polychrome hexagons arranged in offset rows, each enclosing a diamond decorated with double hooks, are distributed with playful ease across the light red ground of the field. They are interspersed with the serrated designs that are typical of Mut kilims. The sides of the field are likewise decorated with polychrome points which take on the role of a border. – Minor rewoven sections, good condition.
