Description
Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Sumatra, Batak peoples, ca. early 20th century CE. A lidded ritual vessel made from a gourd wrapped in woven rattan, capped by a round, wooden lid with a finial of a seated figure displaying a zoomorphic mask. The Batak people traditionally engage in agriculture, growing the gourds used to make vessels like this one. Size: 6.5" W x 12.35" H (16.5 cm x 31.4 cm)
