These landmark Journals contain all the foundation laws for the new State, accompanying votes, and numerous reports: the organization of House and Senate, election of United States Senators, Governor's messages, establishment of County boundaries, explanation of the derivation of the names of Counties, the proposed State of Deseret with its Constitution, adoption of the civil and common law, establishment of the seat of Government, reactions to the proposed Compromise of 1850, and a host of other significant matters. Greenwood says that, despite the San Jose imprint, the Journals were printed in New York. Greenwood 167n.
