Description
Ancient Greece, Cyprus, Iron Age, Cypro-Archaic Phase, ca. early 1st millennium BCE. An impressive pottery vessel with an attractive form: a near-spherical body, cylindrical neck, trefoil lip, and strap handle that joins the rear end of the spout to the shoulder. It has a boldly-painted black-on-buff motif comprised of mesmerizing concentric circle/target motifs visible on every face of the piece, crossed linear motifs similar to arrows nestled between rows of target-like forms beneath the spout, and overlapping concentric circles. The target design was particularly popular on vessels produced in Cyprus at this time. Size: 7.2" W x 10.55" H (18.3 cm x 26.8 cm)
