Description
Rare piece of yacht race history. Crafted of sterling silver with gold elements. Features enameled flags and racing symbols on the front. Richly enameled in red white and blue colors. Lifesaver enameled with International Gold Cup 1926. 1926 was the first year when the Scandinavian Gold Cup was open to competitors from outside Nordic countries. The race was won by American sailor and Olympic champion Herman Whiton who's monogram in gold is affixed to the upper left corner of the case. Gold gilt interior fitted with Hanko Norway pierced retainer. Case is signed Cartier Paris Made in France. Comes in the original Cartier presentation case. Measures 5 1/8" x 3 1/4" Total weight approximately 226.9 grams. Good condition with mild surface wear, small bends to retainer. Presentation case with wear and staining.
