Description
Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 700 BCE. A beautiful example of a cast bronze horse figurine, perhaps once used as a decorative applique or a votive. The horse stands on four thin legs under a long, rounded body. Its head and neck are exaggerated, large relative to the body, with a nicely incised mane and applied bronze ovoids for eyes. Luristan's craftsmen produced high quality bronze objects for a class of nomadic horse lords whose love of their animals shines through clearly in the decorative items they commissioned. Size: 2.05" W x 1.45" H (5.2 cm x 3.7 cm)
