1855 needlework sampler, ME Groce, with "September 27, AD 1855, Miss M Patterson, Tutoress" at bottom, strawberry border, verso with vintage provenance note " I wish my niece Martha Nields to have this sampler. It was made by my mother and her grandmother. Martha was named for her grandmother. M Anna Nields". Measures 25" x 16 1/4" sight size, some bleached spots around border, not examined out of frame. Martha was born in Juniata County and married into the Nields family in Chester County.
