**First Time At Auction**
Ancient Greece, Athens, ca. 5th century BCE. A petite, finely-decorated red-figure lekythos, a vessel used by the ancients to store precious oils and perfumes. The vessel itself is comprised of a slightly-concave and corseted base, a bulbous body, rounded shoulders which gradually taper to a narrow, tubular neck, a discoid rim, and an applied loop handle. The iconography on the front depicts a winged, human-headed siren, standing atop a Corinthian capital within a pair of slender columns, playing a twin lute instrument, all in the graceful red-figure style. A beautiful example from ancient Athens! Size: 2.375" W x 3.5" H (6 cm x 8.9 cm).

Condition
Neck, rim, and majority of handle all restored with some resurfacing and overpainting. Age-commensurate surface wear, chips and fading to painted details, otherwise very good. Nice earthen deposits and silvery patina throughout.
