Byzantine Solid Silver Fibula Brooch with Fish. Byzantine, c. 6th Century A.D. Solid silver fibula in the form of a cross in slightly curving silver sheet bend at the lower end to form the pin catch at the back and ending in the form of thick wire secured at the centre of the cross, clever workmanship to secure the permanent position of the catch-plate, the other end bent in a loop to form a shaft for the base and axle of the pin. Decorated with a fish. Silver, 68 grms. 9.6 cm L - 3 3/4 inches. Provenance: UK private collection, formed in the 1940s-1950s.
