Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. An elegant earring that could easily serve as a pendant, comprised of an 18K gold scalloped, openwork frame surrounding a white stone cameo depicting the bust of a female beauty wearing a cloak, her head in profile, her sensitively delineated visage with delicate facial features and hair pulled back to a chignon - with an integral 18K gold wire loop on the verso. Simply ravishing! Size: .75" L x .625" W (1.9 cm x 1.6 cm); cameo measures .375" L x .25" W (1 cm x 0.6 cm); total weight: 1.6 grams
