Oceania, Papua New Guinea, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A beautiful hand-carved mortar with a shallow, flat bowl at the top and a flat base, its sides decorated with high relief birds and fins, the sides and decorations each deeply incised with spirals, swirls, and lines. Size: 3.25" W x 5.7" H (8.3 cm x 14.5 cm)
