Description
Aquamarine jacquard with tiny diagonal stripes figured with leaf devices, empire bodice with short puffed sleeve and a hem border of polychrome satin-stitch embroidery below a wide tuck, drawstring neckline, embroidered gauze ribbon waistband, bodice is lined in linen. From "A Sample list of Children's Clothes" typed by Helen Larson: "1814 Maria Monroe-daughter of James Monroe...Maria Monroe wore this dress when she was ten years old and made news wearing it with pantalettes in Washington, D.C.", bodice inked in 20th C writing "Made in Paris, 1814, for Maria Monroe". B-26, L-42 1/2. (Few tiny holes in sleeves, few small faint spots) excellent.
