Description
White-painted straw covered in lavender satin and ribbed purple silk bands, turned-up brim ruffled with black lace, crown covered with lavender ostrich feathers, bows and black lace. Modeled by Vivian Leigh in Doris Langley Moore's "The Woman in Fashion", 1949. 7 x 9 x 4. (Edge of crown unstitched, lacking lining) good. Together with a "jockey" style small-brimmed straw hat, c. 1868, trimmed in blue ribbon, lace and roses, label "Mrs. S. Grain, Cambridge", 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 x 3. (Trim not original, breaks to straw) fair.
