Description
Grey silk, extremely wide A-line with exaggerated kimono-type sleeve having a stenciled metallic gold pattern radiating from the shoulders comprised of Coptic design elements on eight panels joined with hand-cut coral beads creating slits revealing the magenta silk lining, sleeves pieced from four narrow panels, silk and metallic cord necktie with large amber glass beads. A nearly identical example from the collection of Edith Teresa Hulton, 8th Lady Berwick now in the British National Trust, Attingham Park, Shropshire.also see Brighton Museum Catalogue 1980 No.33. Label "Mariano Fortuny Venise". B-82, Slv-39, L-54. (Fabric has a series of light spots in sets of four where fabric appears to have reacted with beads, few minor dark spots, several light stains visible in bright light) very good. 8000-12000
