Description
Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic period, ca. 500 to 315 BCE. Very rare and quite exceptional silver amulet in the form of Tawaret. Cast of almost pure silver (but verdigris shows small copper content) in the form of the god Tawaret. Tawaret was the Egyptian God of childhood and fertility and was shown as a bipedal female hippo with feline attributes and the back of a crocodile. Small suspension loop on reverse. Quite attractive and rare! Size: .875" H (2.2 cm)
