1853 Book, "Loss of Five Wesleyan Missionaries in the Maria Mail Boat," by Mrs. Jones, New York, Carlton & Phillips Publishers, Fine.
Originally published in 1827 in London, this narrative is of a shipwreck which took place off the island of Antiqua in the West Indies, February 28, 1826. It is written by Mrs. Jones, the only survivor. The first American edition, published 1837 in New York by Lane & Scott from the London 5th edition, went through three printings. This is the first Carlton & Phillips edition. Original 1/4 leather with marbled paper hard cover, 32 pages, 5.5" x 3.5". Binding and corners well worn, with minor foxing on the pages. The covers and spine are intact and the pages tightly bound. The title page has an engraving of passengers clinging to the wreckage of the ship.
