Description
Greece, Magna Graecia, southern Italy, Apulia, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. A petite pottery oil vessel of a graceful form comprised of a bulbous body, narrow neck, flared rim, and a strap handle joining neck to shoulder - all on a raised ring base. The walls have a beautiful decorative band painted around the shoulder, and the lovely black glaze now exudes a more brownish tone. Small in size, but large in character! Size: 2.125" W x 4" H (5.4 cm x 10.2 cm).
Provenance: private Carlton collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired between 1965 and 1980
