Description
1553 LAW Sebastian Brant Titulorum Civil & Canon Giovanni Caccialupi Juris
Known primarily for his book ‘Ship of Fools,’ Sebastian Brant wrote many legal works of civil and canonic law. Brant, a German satirical humanist, was a 15th-century legal mastermind who influenced both legal and humanist circles by his poetry. Even though ‘Ship of Fools’ brought Brant his popularity, he used that fame to produce more refined works on law such as ‘Titulorum Omnium.’ This book, first published in 1490, was introductory textbook on Roman Law. According to Stintzing, ‘Titulorum’ is
“His first juridical writing and the only independent legal work of his hand. As an introductory textbook, the work is not without value.”
This 1553 Lyon edition was edited by Italian scholar Giovanni Caccialupi and published by the famed printer Sebastien Gryphium.
