Description
4 Pieces of Mid Century American Weeping 22k Gold Porcelain Items c. 1940-1950. Coffee Pot 7 1/4"., Cream 3" and Sugar 4". Mint / Candy Dish 4 3/4"x4 3/4"x 1 1/2". Weight on all 3 pds 2 oz. PROVENANCE: A Charleston SC Private Estate. These weeping gold pieces were first created in the 1940s and continued in production until the price of gold was prohibitive. The first company to produce the Weeping Gold style was Kingwood Ceramics of East Palestine, Ohio. Other companies that followed suit were McCoy and Acme Craftwear, among others. The process of creation includes 2 types of glazing. First a textured glaze was applied and then the pottery was chilled. After, the molten gold was poured over the piece, ran through the textures and solidified with drips, like tears. That's where the name "Weeping Gold" comes from. Good condition.
