Description
The only known species of the genus Tubipora, this spectacular example of Organ Pipe Coral is native to the waters of the Indian Ocean and the western regions of the Pacific. A soft coral, it possesses a unique, hard skeleton of calcium carbonate that contains many tubes that are reminiscent of organ pipes. On each tube is a series of polyps which have eight feather-like tentacles. The coral’s skeleton is a bright red color. In size, colonies can reach up to a meter across.
