Description
ANSONIA FIGURAL BALL SWING CLOCK, eight-day brass movement, marked "ANSONIA CLOCK CO." with Ansonia trademark; swing arm with ball case/dial, pinned numerals, gilt-brass hands, surmounted by gilt-brass ribbon-form finial, fitted in gilt-brass bracket arms atop adjustable pendulum terminating in ball-form drop with additional gilt-brass decorative elements; on "Diana" or "Huntress" cast-metal figure. First quarter 20th century. 29 5/8" HOA.
Very good condition overall, expected minor to moderate surface wear, "Diana" figure with splitting to back of neck and into shoulders, possibly as made. Movement with solder repair to frame, otherwise appears to be in good order, except for the spring canister leaking fluid, resulting in it being "gummed up", and the associated fluid causing the click to get stuck, thus allowing the spring to unwind; when click is manually engaged, the clock can be wound, and then runs for short periods (see Catalogue Guarantee).
Provenance: Property from the private collection of Barbara Wright, Charlottesville, VA.
