Description
Hand carved wooden spread wing eagle wall plaque in an old grungy brown surface. Two iron mounting brackets on reverse so it could be attached to another object. Size 33.5"W x 8"H. An old hand painted inscription on reverse that reads "This Old Carrousel Eagle, Is From An English 'Merry Go Round' - Maker's Name Parker - Early 1800's - Hand Carved - Presented To Mrs Oma B. Gross 'Our Dear Friend' - By Mrs ida G. Southworth & Mr & Mrs Joseph F. Miller - Sept 1964". The name "Parker" possibly C.W. Parker who made Carousels in the late 19th to early 20th century - one of his carousels was shipped to British Columbia which may account for the "English" connection in the note on reverse. The eagle clearly in the American style and more likely late 19th century than "Early 1800's" as indicated in the note.
