Maximilian Stoll was an 18th-century Austrian physician known for being an influential member of the Viennese School. He is generally regarded as a systematist relying heavily on the work of Sydenham. Stoll was one of the few physicians of the Viennese School to support Auenbrugger’s views on medical percussion. According to ‘Heirs of Hippocrates,’“In ‘Aphorismes,’ a treatise on fevers, he refers favorably to the practice and, in all probability, it was here that the translator, Corvisart, became acquainted with the subject. This prompted him to translated also Auenbrugger’s classic work, which led to the general acceptance of percussion as a diagnostic practice.”This 1797 edition is printed in both Latin and French in parallel pages.
