George W. Brown Co. Forestville, CT. - Circa 1880's The U. S. S. Moniter was the first iron-hulls steamship built by the Union Navy. She was launched January 30, 1862. Built by the Continental Iron Works of Greenpoint, Brooklyn at a cost of $275,000 (This one won't cost that much!). The Moniter fought the U. S. S. Merrimack to a standstill at the Battle of the Hampton Roads (Virginia). She was lost at sea on December 31, 1862. She is known for her revolving turret that was immediately duplicated. Overall in Very Fine Condition, however, all red colors have been enhanced. Tin
