A PAIR OF VILLEROY & BOCH PHANOLITH PORCELAIN PLAQUES, BY JEAN BAPTISTE STAHL, METTLACH, GERMANY, ARTIST'S MONOGRAM, IMPRESSED LABEL AND NUMBERS, CIRCA 1900, each of rectangular form and centering a pate sur pate scene illustrating Cupid standing on a fountain and offering a drink from his cup to Psyche, wearing ethereal billowing robes, beneath a tall tree set on lush foliate groundwork, lower left artist's "JS" monogram enclosed within a conforming band and line border, against a teal jasper wear ground, reversing to the abbey trademark over "METTLACH" banner and "VB" initials, above, "GES.DOESCH," and "7073," flanked by "28" and "06.", height: 8 3/8", width: 8 3/8"; the other similarly decorated plaque showing Psyche embracing Cupid, standing on a satyr guéridon beneath a tall tree on lush groundwork, lower right artist's "JS" monogram, reversing to the abbey trademark over "METTLACH" banner and "VB" initials, above, "GES.DOESCH," and "7074," flanked by "28" and "06.", height: 7 3/8", width: 7 3/8". NOTE: Jean Baptiste Stahl, was the artist modeler of ceramics at the Villeroy & Boch factory in Mettlach, Germany, who created the Phanolith process in the late 19th century. Later at the 1900 World Expostion in Paris, the Phanolith received wide public recognition .

Each is framed in an conforming gilt gessoed wood frame that are loose, have numerous old chips, cracks and marks. The plaques are in good shape with no discernible issues.
