Portland (Maine), Published by Sanborn & Carter, Philadelphia: Thomas, Cowperthwait & Co. 1837 (first edition). In brown blindstamped binding with gilt title and decoration of skull and crossbones over anchor. Many wood engravings. 5" x 7 3/4", 432 pages. Binding poor, hinges started, contents have water staining, foxing and toning, but are complete and legible.
