17th Century German Main Franken Workshops in Wuerzburg Germany desk.
Desk is extensively inlaid and consists of 3 pieces, base unit has fold out drawer and stretcher base, center section has 2 large drawers in base & center door flanked by 3 drawers on each side, top section has glass door and drawer right below, base is loose, some veneer loss and minor cosmetic flaws, the consigner had it in her bedroom leaning against the wall, when the desk is free standing it sways and is wobbly, base need to be tightened.Locks are good and come with the keys. the very top section seems to have had a finial of some sorts at one point, we do not have that
Desk dates from 1690 to 1710.
Desk is 78" tall overall, the base is 34.5" tall and is 37.5" wide, 27.5" deep, bese has fold out drawer.
Note from consignor: Former owner was Ludwig Schwabacher, private collector of rare antiques of Wuerzburg. who left it to his daughter Sofia Schwabacher - Oppenheimer -Bach, my stepmother, it was brought to the US by Sofia Oppenheimer, widow of Fred Oppenheimer who was killed by the Nazis, who escaped to London then immigrated to USA, met Siegfried Bach, widower in US , my father, and married him in 1948.
During the war the Nazis, during a raid while looking for valuables damaged the corner of the second part of this desk.
Sofia Bach Presented me with the desk in late 1950s. when I was living in New York.
